Workshop - week 3
Based on the movie on Typography that is called " Helvetica ", I learned that even in the smallest of things, we need to take note. I found out after watching the movie that Helvetica was developed by Max Miedinger with Eduard Hoffman in 1957 for the Haas type foundry in Munchenstein, Switzerland. Plus in my recent exhibition proposal that i did, i used the helvetica font because i think that it looked nice and presentable. Typography is a very important thing in our daily lives, it may seem like a small matter but actually it is crucial and it affects a lot of things if the typeface doesn't suit a certain thing. For example, a poster about anti human trafficking has a big role in delivering a strict message. So in order for the message to be heard and understood, the right font or typeface needs to be use, or else people will not get it and they will not be interested or even want to do something to fix or prevent it from happening. Besides, i also like the way Luke Geisburler directed the photography in the film. The shots are successful in displaying the beauty and art of typography. Some day I wish to be like one of the graphic designers in the movie such as Neville Brody.

Geometric shape
Graphic Design 1 - week 2
Alright so this week's task is about simple geometric shape. We had to draw 3 sets of different geometric shape which are circle, square and triangle. Based on those shape we need to create anything that comes up to our mind. We have to be creative and think outside of the box. So this is what i came up with.
circle
square
triangle
Personally, my fave is the circle one but i also like the guitar. I tried to combine all this given shape and create something out of it and these are what that pops up on my mind. Next, we were told to choose 3 of our friends work or our own and give reasons why do we like that certain image. The 3 shapes that i have decided to choose are
The first one is by Ifti, I chose this particular image because i like the fact that this image looks like it has movement. It's not just static, it comes to life with the effect of as if the ball is bouncing from one point to the other. Although from a circle he just made it into a ball but it still attracts my attention. It's a simple drawing with a little bit of life injected to it. Plus, i also like the way ifti made the lines a little bit bold, to show the strength of the bouncing ball. Besides, i always like to try to incorporate life and movement in my drawings, sketches or ideas.
For this one done by me , I especially like the guitar because it really shows that i experimented on the triangle shape itself. I thought hard and long about what i can do with a triangle shape. I asked my friends for some ideas, then i finally got it. I simply colored the guitar with various option of colors because i wanted the guitar to look interesting, funky and fun. I don't want it to be just another boring guitar. I tried to focus on the details of this guitar. For example like the strings and stuff.
This last one is a drawing of mine as well. i choose this image because i like the way this whole thing flows. From one circle to another. I also wanted to put in some maori designs on the panda's face. So that's why i did all the spirals and pointy curves on the face. If you notice, I used a lot of black because i wanted to highlight the strength of the image. Initially i wanted it to be all black but then i think it's better if i put some color in it.

Toilet Sign Research
For the next assignment, we need to get in groups of three and create a unique toilet sign. My group consists of me, Fateha and Ifti. These are some of the images that we found on the internet
Based on this images and ideas we did some sketches
These are some of our ideas but we haven't finalize yet. We want to create something that is eye catching and interesting :)
After i did my short presentation for the lines on papers, we were asked to choose our friends work and rearrange it in a way that we think it should have been. So i choose my friend Iftikar's work, that looked something like this
Basically what i really like about ifti's work is the way he drew it, but i think it would have look even better with a different way of displaying it. So i rearranged it, and this is how it looks
I personally think that these lines looked better this way. I purposely arrange it this way to make it look like a person's face and to give it the illusion as if all the lines are combined into one or somehow the lines connect with one another. Since the image that ifti had chosen was a picture of a guy, that is one of the factor that made me want to arrange the lines this way.
Lines on papers
The lines that i drew based on the elements from the image looks like this
There are 2 parts in the image. The top one is my first attempt, the lower one is my second attempt. For me i prefer the top one, because i love the way it just flows from one line to the other and how it connects but at the same time it still sends the message that i want people to know. Furthermore, each line somehow represents me. For example, the eyes represents how intense and sharp i can be at times. I also look at stuff or matter in a different way or a twisted way. Next, the red line on the top left represents a part of me who is bold and colorful. That's why i drew it in red marker and i enhance the lines by duplicating it making it bigger and bigger. Moving on, the black line in the middle on top of the eye, shows that i like to make a statement. That line was actually inspired by the accessory on the girl's forehead in the image that i have chosen. As you can see, i drew that using a black bold marker just to lighten and focus more on the statement that i like to make. When ever i do something i always want to make sure that it's firm and solid. I'll try my best to do it. Moreover, the red twisted line on the top right represents the complex maori tattoo/make up on the face of the girl. That part displayed the complicated person i am inside. I may look simple and all that, but i can be super complicated and jumble up sometimes. During this process i got to learn more about myself and ways to express myself :)
