Exhibition's Analysis

Facts

Artist                 : Claire Morgan

Tittle                 : Downtime

Date                 : 2010

Size                 : 1.5m (w) x 1.5m (d) x height variable

Medium           : strawberries, taxidermy crow, fishing hooks and
                          Nylon.

To begin with, there are five elements in Claire Morgan’s installation art which are, line, form, color, texture and space. The line element is visible from the tilted plank of hanging strawberries. There are vertical thin line from the fishing line and diagonal line from the strawberries. Next, form can be seen from the overall look of the artwork. It is three dimensional and it is in a shape of a square. Color is one of the main element here, the lighter shades  of the strawberries are the top part which is the strawberry leaf and the darker shades are at the bottom of the strawberries. There’s a contrast going on there. Moving on, the texture from the strawberries surface and the fur from the crow are obvious. The bird’s fur has a smooth, furry and silky texture while the surface of the strawberries are a little bit rough and furry. The last element is space. The area within the bird falling through the strawberries and hit the floor creates a perspective and negative space.

Analysis

The composition of this artwork is imbalance. The strawberries are tilted more to the front and right side. Putting that aside, this installation art is very stable indeed.

Contrast

The contrast can be seen from the strawberries itself. The upper part has lighter tone and shades because it is directly facing the light and the lower part has a darker tone and shades.

Pattern

Shapes and lines can be seen from the curved line of the strawberry fruit and the shape can be seen from the strawberries and the bird. The crow has an organic shape while the strawberries has a cone and organic shape.

Emphasis

The repetition of the strawberries creates an emphasized effect. The placement and the contrast of the fruit creates a focal point.

Balance

Furthermore, the strawberries are arranged symmetrically and it creates and equality of weight.

Proportion

The number of strawberries are more than the object.

Harmony

Harmony is definitely involved in this artwork. The arrangement of the strawberries give the viewer the feeling that all the parts of the piece forms a coherent whole.

Movement and Rhythm

The type of movement and rhythm that can be seen from this installation is flowing and progressive. The way the fruits and the crow are organized lead the eye to a focus point.

Interpretation

For me I think that the artist is trying to tell a story through her artwork. The story are probably about a bird that falls through the plane of strawberries dramatically and died.

Judgment

I think that this work of art is successful because when I look at it, I can feel it. I can feel the rush and sadness at the same time. The fact that the crow fell and hurt itself that brings the sadness in me.

My Installation art's analysis

Facts

Artist                : Nabilah Es'aedi

Tittle                 : “Terrestrial Sphere”

Date                  : February 2013

Size                   : 251cm x 122cm x 61cm

Medium            : wood, aluminum can, plastic bottles,
                          Newspaper, string, poster color, stones,
Aluminum can lid, cane, glue, double
                          Sided tape.

In my installation art, there are a few basic elements of design which are line, color, texture, space, shape and form. Starting with the line element, there are lines in almost every items that I used for the installation art, such as the curved line on the aluminum can and cane, broken line on the branches, thin line on the wood plank and vertical line on the color pencil. Next, colors are also included for this artwork, especially on the plank of wood that has been cut into a shape of a pencil and at the tip of it is colored using warm and cool poster color. Added, there are Moving on, there are natural textures on the wood, cane, and stones. There are rough texture on the branches, smooth texture on the plastic bottle and aluminum can lid, and fragile texture on the dry leaves. Talking about the spaces between each part of the whole installation showed a great depth of field. Furthermore, the element of shape can be seen on the whole outlook of the installation, as in the silhouette of the artwork. Last but not least, the form element can be seen from the whole look of the installation. It is a three dimensional installation and the concept is organic.

Analysis

In terms of the composition of this installation art, it is imbalance since the items used on the left and right hand side are not the same. Although the overall look is not balance but it is stable and solid.

Contrast

There is definitely contrast in this artwork. For example there’s contrast between the lighter and darker wood that I used for the installation. That is to create a focus point.

Pattern

Repetition of shapes and lines exists in this artwork. There’s repetition of lines that can be seen on the little branches and aluminum can, plus shapes of the flat wooden pencil are also repeated.

Movement and Rhythm

Arranged lines can be seen from the hanging fishing line. The fishing line was hung from the ceiling, that will create movement when the wind blows through it. Moreover, textures on the wood and aluminum can is visible to the eye of the viewer. The kind of rhythm for this artwork is random and flowing.

Interpretation

Through this installation, what I want the viewer to see is me. I want them to know and feel as if they already know me when they look at my installation. The artwork describes me in a way. Each and every part of this installation tells something about me.

Judgment

I think that this is a successful work of art because it describes me well and it tells the viewers what they need to know about me. I would want to live with this piece because it is very dear to me since it is a piece of artwork about me.

Installation Art - week 4

Hello guys, sorry for the delay. On week 4 each of us were ask to do primary research. Basically, we need to generate ideas based on the natural items and materials that can be found all around us. For example, like stones, branches and sand. With the items that have been collected, we need to create an installation art that represents and describe our personality. So i did some sketches and after my sketches has been finalized i started doing my installation art. The images below are the process of making this installation and the items and materials that i used.

Following are the finished look of my installation art.

Down here is my poster for the installation art. I scanned the materials and set it as my poster background,

Toilet sign - week 2

we were put in groups and were ask to create our own toilet sign and our group member ifti came up with this sign first  as a concept sample

This sign was created using, cardboard and aluminium foil.

Based on the concept the final signs that we came up with for the women's toilet is this

We used the ribbon to symbolize women, and it was slanted because if it was just straight it would be boring. This was also pasted on the wall beside the toilet door, instead of on the door to make it always visible for people to see because sometimes the toilet door might be open so you can't see the toilet sign. Plus, the color red was used to show the feminine woman side.

Men's toilet sign

Tie was used to symbolize man. A stately neck is manhood's manliest part. Blue color were used to show that it's a men's toilet. I know that it's cliche to think that blue is for guys and red or pink is for girls, but we decided to use those colors because it is commonly known that way. Fortunately, thanks a lot to our classmate our signs were chosen and our artwork was pasted on the AAVA's toilet.
